Magus equip

Magus with all his stats maximazed, except Accuracy.

'Statistics and attibutes are a part of Chrono Triggers game mechanics. Most determine the performance of characters and enemies in battle. Other quantifiable data (such as currency or points) allow the purchase of items and the obtaining of additional skills.

In the case of statistics linked to combat, these will be represented by two stars (☆☆) when reaching their maximum level.

Gold[]

Gold or G is the standard currency in Chrono Trigger. G is the accepted currency in most time periods, even in Prehistory and the Future, where it is called "shiny stone" or maybe questioned as money, respectively. The exception to this is in Prehistory where the Ioka Village Hut merchant accepts Petals, Fangs, Horns and Feathers in exchange for special weapons, armor, and headgear. Gold is accepted by most merchants in exchange for their goods. G is awarded by defeating certain enemies or found in chests.

The maximum amount of Gold the party can have with them is 9,999,999.

Farming Gold[]

Gold can be gotten in a variety of ways from defeating enemies, charming enemies items to equipping an accessory called Workman's Wallet to turn exp points into gold. Here's a list of places to farm money.

  • Early on in the game, over at the Site 16 area, the player can fight plant monsters called Floral Horrors (Meat Eaters) to win ether's to sell for 750 Gold each, the player can make enough money to buy the expensive sword for Chrono called Zanmato (Demon Edge) at Medina Village for 65000G.
  • The player can go to the year 65,000,000 BC to fight the Nus for 3 of each Fang, Feather, Horn, Petal which can be traded for weapons and armor which can be sold for money.
  • The player can also have Ayla charm enemies for weapons and armor which can be sold for money.
  • The player can have Robo lead the party and fight robots on the conveyor belt in Geno Dome.
  • During 12,000 BC's second visit, the player can charm the Mudbeasts in the mud beast den in Terra Cave if they haven't yet beaten the Mud Imp boss. They can be charmed for the rare Rainbow Helm (R'bow Helm), which is only obtainable here, and sells for 8,000 G a piece. Being that there's an inn and shop a couple screens away, coupled with the ease of the grind and gold amount, this presents the player with the best gold farming route in the game.
  • If the Mud Imp has been defeated, the player can charm various Mount Woe enemies for high level gear, each selling for more than the previously mentioned R'bow helm. In turn yielding more gold, but lacking the convenience of the beast den route (no inn, and enemies are tougher to deal with)
  • All of these routes are more effective if the player equips the wallet/workman's wallet (obtained behind the sealed door in Bangor Dome) while grinding the enemies, which converts exp gained to gold.

Hit Points[]

Hit Points or HP, are a character stat that shows how much "health" your character has. It can be restored through items like Potions and spells like Aura. When it reaches zero, your character dies and can only be revived through the use of Athenian Water (also known as Revive in the SNES/PS version) or a spell like Raise or Arise. Winning a battle with a dead character brings them back with 1 HP of health.

All enemies have HP as well. When their HP reaches zero, they die. Enemy HP can be viewed if a character is equipped with Sight Scope.

All characters reach maximum HP (999) at level 60, except Robo, who reaches maximum at level 50. Equipping Silver Earring or Golden Earring will cause slight shifts in the maximum HP per level ratio.

Magic Points[]

Magic Points or MP, are character stat that is consumed as they perform Techs. Stronger Techs consume more MP. A character's maximum MP increases when they level up, and the total amount of MP is gauged by the Magic Attack stat. MP is refilled by staying at an inn, using a shelter at a save point, or through consumables like Ether. Certain enemies have a desperation tech that nullifies a character's MP when they vanquish the enemy. Ghost Knight, Synchrite, Narble, Zombor (Upper Body), Flea?, Queen Zeal, and Once-King Dalton have this ability. Ingesting Magic Capsules or wearing a Magic Scarf will alter the normal MP per level ration.

All characters reach maximum MP by or at level 60, with the exception of Frog (61), Robo (67), and Ayla (63).

MP enhancing gear aside, Lucca and Marle progress at the same rate, magically, and will always have identical MP at the same levels until Marle reaches Level 32, where her MP will grow at a slower rate than Lucca's.

Between levels 2 and 35 (varies with each character), the number of MP gained is 2 points per level. Afterword, MP progresses at 1 point per level until the 99 max-cap.

MP consumption can be reduced by the Silver Stud and Gold Stud.

Experience Points[]

Experience Points also known as EXP, are the measure of a character's experience. EXP is awarded for defeating enemies in combat. Party members do not gain experience if they are knocked out at the end of a battle, but they can gain experience when they are not in the active party. By accumulating EXP, characters level up, thereby increasing their HP, MP, and other stats.

On the character screen, two EXP numbers are shown:

  1. How much EXP the character has accumulated
  2. How much EXP is required to reach the next level

Tech Points[]

Tech Points or TP, are special experience points that go towards characters learning new and more powerful techniques. Party members can gain TP only if they still have remaining HP at the end of a battle. TP are earned separately from EXP, with some enemies offering a higher ratio of TP, or perhaps no TP at all.

Attack[]

Attack IconAttack is a character's physical attacks which can improved by equipping weapons. The max amout of Attack is 255.

Defense[]

Defence IconDefense is a character's resistance to physical attacks in Chrono Trigger. It can be improved with Helms and Armor. The max amout of Defense is 255.

Formula[]

Defense = (Defense from Gear + Stamina/Vigor)

Physical damage taken = base damage * (256 - defense) / 256 = base damage * (1 - defense/256)

Strength[]

Strength can be increased through equipping items, such as Power Glove, Power Scarf, Power Ring or Power Crest. Strength can be permanently increased by using Strength Capsules, and by leveling up. It helps to determinate how strong the physical Techs are. Stength also improve the Attack stat by 2.

However, Lucca and Marle are the only characters that do not use Strength for their Attack stat, due to their usage of Long ranged weapons, and they cannot reach 99 Strength naturally.

Speed[]

Speed (Also called Agility) determines how quickly the character's turn comes.

This stat is the only one in the game that does not rise on its own naturally like the others, because it never increases when a character Levels Up, so the only way to permanently raise Speed is through Speed Capsules, although it can also be temporarily increased with various equipment available in the game.

Ayla have the highest speed of the game, while Lucca and Robo have the lowest speed. Robo can increase his speed by 3 after surviving on the battle against Atropos XR in the Geno Dome. In the DS and Steam versions, Crono, Marle and Lucca can also increase their speed permanently after defeating Steel Shade, Alabaster Shade and Crimson Shade on the Dimensional Vortex respectively.
