The Geno Dome (ジェノサイドーム "Genocidome"?) is a location in Chrono Trigger that appears in the year 2300 AD. Robo, Atropos XR, and other R-Series robots were created here. Mother Brain, an iridescent hologram representation of the factory's mainframe, controls and maintains the facility.
Story[]
The Day of Lavos destroyed the lush green landscape populated mainly by humans and their robotic assistants. In the year 2300 AD, all that remains are the ruins of domed metropolises and their decaying inhabitants. The destruction wrought by Lavos presumably destroyed natural vegetation, agriculture, and wild game, and thus this era suffers from food shortage. Machines do not require sustenance the way humans did. Previously the allies of humans, the robots of the factories and domes were reprogrammed by Mother Brain to view humans as weak and destroy them. They kidnap and murder them within Geno Dome. Gruesome scenes of humans on conveyor belts being slaughtered and transformed into shining blue capsules can be seen within the dome. Powerful robots and computer locks keep the facility strongly secured, as the machines sought to create a new era based on infallible logic under the leadership of Mother Brain. Robo's discovery of Geno Dome and the horrors within inspired him to do what was necessary to overpower its defenses, including Atropos XR, and disable Mother Brain. Tragically, should the party destroy Lavos prior to completing this Sidequest and ending the Mother Brain's genocide, Atropos XR is also among those to perish in the dome.
Name Origin[]
Geno is derived from the word genocide, meaning the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group. This is appropriate, as the robots in the Geno Dome have organized the systematic slaughter of humans inside the dome. The Japanese name is a portmanteau of Genocide and Dome.
"Geno" also derives from the gene that means birth, since it's where robots are created.
